"You're a wizard Harry!"

This is something I've been meaning to blog about for a while, but in January I took the Ginge to the Harry Potter Studio Tour. This was actually his Christmas present, but it meant we had a lovely day out to look forward to together.

Now the Ginge has never read any of the Harry Potter books, but I made sure he'd watched the films and whilst I enjoyed the films, I can't say they were high on my list of all time faves. But being a bit of a film geek I thought it would be a great attraction to visit and get a look at some behind the scenes secrets!

Obviously I was on the look out for any costumes from the film and there are quite a few on display which was great. There is so much to see at the tour and I would definately recommend going, it's amazing to see how film-makers bought the magical world of Hogwarts alive. I was a complete tourist-geek and I did take a lot of photos!

So this is the perfect time to say...

**SPOILER ALERT**

The rest of this post does contain some photos I took at the Warner Bros. Harry Potter Tour, so if you don't want to see any of them to keep the tour a mystery... then scroll no further!!

I just wanted to share with you a few snaps of some of the costumes, but I can tell you there is far more to take in at the tour than what you will see here!

Costumes from the ball in The Goblet of Fire, including Emma Watson's Pink Ball Gown (she is tiny!) & Rupert Grint's rather fetching dress robes!

Blue Dress & Cape as worn by Clemence Posey as Fleur Delacour.
Really interesting to see the patterns used to make the costume. #costumenerd

Ahhh! Continuity photos!
I've actually done costume continuity before on a short film and you have to be so precise to remember who wore what & when during each scene.

Snape Costume - Worn by Alan Rickman
Love that one of the cats in the stole has caught a mouse! Great detail!

The famous invisibility cloak!

*Fun Fact*
The cloak was lined in bright green cloth so the wearer could be made invisible in front of the green screen!

One of my favourite facts of the tour...
The characer of Dolores Umbridge dressed in darker shades of pink as the films went on, signifying her increase in power!

So there you are, a little snapshot of costume geekery at the Harry Potter Tour in Leavesden, but don't worry I haven't shown you everything, there is so much more to see!
**Yes in Leavesden... I know the poster's say London but it's definately not in London!**

I would definately recommend it for any Potter fan, and even just film fans. I've heard they are increasing the tour to include the Hogwarts Express train & a recreation of Platform 9 3/4 which will be amazing to see.

Anyone else been on the tour? What did you think?

Let me know :)

Surprises in the Post

I am really excited to be able to post about this now!

In the run up to Christmas I entered an advent calendar competition on one of my favourite blogs Retro Chick. Behind each door was a lovely vintage/retro prize (I wanted them all!) and I couldn't believe my luck when after Christmas turned out I had won a prize! I know everyone says they never win anything in competition... but I don't! Seriously! I can't think of the last time I entered a competition and won!

Anyway, my prize was a glitter cherry hair clip and a box of surprises from Rosie Alia Designs! Needless to say I was super excited to receive a box of goodies and the postman made my day by delivering them after a very stressful day a work

How cute is this box & handwritten note?!

Now onto the goodies!

**Note: The box also contained a Cadburys Fudge bar but knowing my love for chocolate that obviously didn't last long at all!**

The Glitter Cherry Hair Clip
Oh man do I love glitter! To be honest I don't think I need to say anything more than that! Haha!

The Flapper Feather Headband
Pretty white feather and flowers sitting on a dark lace headband will go perfectly with my fringed flapper dress. I just need a party to go to!

The Poppy Hair Clip
Love the colour of this and the fact that it's quite big.  The flower is great colour match to a chunky knit jumper I have so while it's still jumper season I'm going to wear this as a brooch to match it.

The Tropical Flower Hair Clip
This will be amazing for summer with it's pretty pink and yellow colours

And finally...

The Floral/Acorn Hair Clip
I love the little acorn details on this clip,  it'll look lovely with my chunky wooly scarf

I'm actually growing my hair at the moment due to lack of hair inspiration the past year or so! So this is the perfect opportunity to start experimenting with different styles and seeing what I can do with theses clips.

While the Glitter Cherry hair clip is lovely and the reason I entered the competition that day (who can resist a big of glitter?!) my favourites are tied between thepoppy clip and the tropical flower clip. They're just so cute!

So thank you very much to both Retro Chick for running the competition, and Rosie Alia Designs for your box of gorgeous goodies! Great competition and lovely prizes, I cannot wait to start wearing these!

Sewing Treats

After a pretty, erm, heavy night out for one of my girlfriend's birthdays last night,  I have decided that tonight will consist of my bed, TV box sets and as much chocolate as I can possibly consume!

A rummage in my emergency chocolate stash revealed an uneaten (!) Christmas present in the shape of these sewing goodies!

**No, I have no idea how I still have any Xmas chocolates left over either!**

This cute little set has chocs in thread, scissors and thimble shapes - perfect for a sewing chocolate lover like myself!

Although the tag says 'Love from Santa' I suspect the large Sainsburys logo at the back could be a clue to where these treats actually came from!

Looking forward to breaking into these and a box set of Mad Men tonight.

Who says sewing and chocolate don't go hand in hand?!
